Sylvia Varnes, 81, of Bostwick went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Palatka Health Care Center with her family by her side.
Sylvia was born in White City, Florida Sept. 19, 1935 to James and Clara Traynor. Coming from White City, she moved to Bostwick 65 years ago where she lived until failing health caused her to recently move to Palatka. She was always there for her husband, Walter, when he needed her. When he was a painter she helped him with the trim work. Later she helped him as a roadside vendor selling shrimp. Sylvia was a member of Bostwick Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She also liked to crochet and make quilts. She was a certified Cabbage Patch Doll maker.
Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Walter Varnes; two brothers, James Edward Traynor and William Thomas “Bill” Traynor; and a grandson, Kyle Matthew Sutton.
Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Rayford and Susan Varnes of East Palatka, Daniel and Deborah Varnes of Bostwick, Walter Varnes, Jr. of Bostwick, and Jeffery and Suzanne Varnes of Palatka; a daughter, Melissa Sutton of Justice, NC, two brothers, Richard Traynor of Ft. Pierce and Steve Traynor of Wildwood; three sisters, Louise Matthews of Orange Park, Rachel Fowler of Middleburg, and Judith Hobgood of Vero Beach; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 25th at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Harry Varnadoe and Pastor Willie McKinnon officiating. The family will begin receiving friends at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bostwick Cemetery at a later date.
