Betty Jo Turk, 85, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville following a brief illness.

Betty was born in Gainesville and had been mostly a lifelong resident of Putnam County, growing up in Crescent City and living her adult life mostly in Palatka. Betty was born in Gainesville on October 25, 1935. Betty worked for 20 years as a food service worker with the Putnam County School System. Betty had traveled to many states and countries on mission trips. Haiti, Jamaica, Germany, England, Austria, Switzerland, and Israel are just a few she had visited. She was baptized in the Jordan River in Jerusalem in 1985. New York, Nevada, Colorado, Georgia, New Mexico and Alabama are a few of the states she had been to. While in New York Betty was able to see a Broadway Show and visit an Amish Village. She volunteered for many years with various organizations. The first year she worked as a volunteer at Hospice, she received the Volunteer of the Year award. She loved coming to the Columbia County Senior Services Center in Lake City. At the Center she participated in Bible Study, crafts, the gym, played the shakers in the Kitchen Band, and she loved to sing because it just made her feel good.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 66 years, Carl Turk; her parents, Clifford and Bertha Hunt; and two brothers, Lynwood Hunt and Clifton Hunt.

Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law, Debra and John Harrison of Lake City, and Donna Conner of Tampa; a brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Minnie Lou Hunt of Guyton, GA; two sisters and brother-in-law, Sandra Marriott of Newberry, FL, and Sharon and Ron Reynolds of Palm Coast; four grandchildren and spouse, John and Jana Harrison of Hot Springs, AR, Jeff Harrison of Lake City, Joanna Schneider of Live Oak, and Michael Conner of Las Vegas, NV; 9 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty’s celebration of life will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the graveside at Palatka Memorial Gardens with Pastor Benny Reynolds and Bro. John Harrison officiating. The family requests that everyone practice social distancing.
