JUDY STACEY MOODY-HERD

Judy Stacey Moody-Herd, 72, of East Palatka passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021 in the comfort of her home following a brief illness.

The second daughter of George Virgil Stacey and Pearl Renae Stacey, Judy was a life-long resident of the area. She graduated from Palatka High School, class of 1967. She later studied at St. Johns River Community College, Bethune–Cookman University, and Daytona State College. A licensed practical nurse, she worked several decades in the NewBorn and Obstetrics unit of Putnam Community Medical Center. Being a nurse, caring for infants, and supporting the families of Putnam County were her lifelong passions.

In her spare time, she enjoyed the St. Johns River, which she was raised along and lived near her entire life. From her childhood in a fishing camp to her adulthood as an avid fisher, Judy could often be found near its banks. A talented green thumb, she also spent many days planting flowers, trimming rose bushes, seeding bottle brush trees, and riding her lawnmower like a cowboy. When not outside, she could be found inside perfecting a gluten-free recipe, sewing, combing her cat Pinky, or napping to Bonanza. She will be remembered for who she was: a friendly, proud, loud, tough, kind, caring, and independent woman who was easy with a laugh and always willing to share a story.

Judy’s prized possession was her family. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest M. Moody and John D. Herd; her parents, George and Pearl Stacey; her siblings, Russell “Rusty” Stacey and Linda Dixon; and her brother-in-law, John E. Dixon.

She is survived by one son, David Antonio Moody, and one stepdaughter, Kimberly Davis; two nephews, Lonnie and John Andrew “Andy” Dixon, and one niece, Tajaro Dixon; family loved ones Denise Pope Dixon, Janet Barnhardt, Wayne Moody, and Lillian Moody; many cousins, great nieces and nephews, and other family members and friends.

Her funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 23rd at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Father Robert Mills officiating. The family will receive guests beginning 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A reception will be held at her home immediately following the funeral. Memorial gifts may be sent to March of Dimes, P.O. Box 18819, Atlanta, GA 31126 (marchforbabies.org). The service will be livestreamed at www.vimeo.com/mastersfuneralhome. Friends are encouraged to sign the online guestbook at www.themastersfuneralhomes.com.
