CHARLES E. WILLIAMS

Charles E. Williams, 88, of Palatka passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021 at his residence following an extended illness.

Charles was born at home on Husson Ave. in Palatka to Joe and Louise Williams on January 17, 1933. He was a lifelong resident of Palatka and a 1951 graduate of Putnam High School in Palatka. He served honorably in the United States Army. In 1998 he retired from Georgia Pacific Corp. in Palatka as an instrument mechanic after 40 years of service, belonging to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

A devout Christian, he was a charter member of College Park Baptist Church in Palatka where he helped to construct the church, served as a deacon, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. He enjoyed playing on the church softball team, rooting for the Gators, camping and traveling. He was a fantastic husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a shining example of a good and honest Christian man.

Besides his parents who founded Williams Body Shop in Palatka in the 1920s, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Williams, Jr., Jerry Williams, and Jack C. Williams.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Patti Huber Williams; three sons, Eddie Williams (Liz), Greg Williams (Jeff), Mike Williams (Rebecca), and a daughter, Suzy Williams Jordan. Two brothers, Donald Williams and Fred Williams and a sister, Betty Andrews also survive. He was blessed with and survived by eight grandchildren; Cheyne Williams, Wesley Williams, Angie Williams, Michael Williams, Benjamin Williams, Joshua Williams, Jessie Jordan-Manning, and Katy Jordan. Also surviving are seven great grandchildren; Michael, Paige, Everett, Trenton, Emma Kate, Grant and Rowan along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 16th at College Park Baptist Church with Pastor Pete Wilkinson and Chaplain Jakie Carmicle officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens with military honors bestowed by the U.S. Army.
