Jessie H. James

Jessie Hardie James, 80, of Bostwick, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at Solaris Healthcare in Palatka following an extended illness.

Born in Palatka, Jessie grew up in Springside and had lived in Bostwick for many years before moving to Orange Park in 2014.

Jessie was a devoted husband; he dearly loved his wife and all his family. Jessie was a hard-working man that provided for his family with no complaints. He owned and operated a very successful Plastering Company in Bostwick for many years. He loved farming, gardening, hunting, fishing. He loved Jesus Christ and one of many things he enjoyed was listening to gospel preaching and gospel music. He took much joy in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was well respected and loved by the staff, nurses, and residents at the Solaris Health Care where he lived for the last 4 1/2 years. He was known there as “the sweetest man I have known.”

He loved all his sisters very much, and he looked forward to his visits from his very faithful and loving sister, Marcel in which they both participated in the activities at the nursing home together.
Once when asked from his granddaughters “papa what advice would you like to give us?” He quoted, “A quiet man is a smart man.” Many people that knew Jessie, knew he was both quiet and smart.

Jessie’s girls would like to add “Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a dad and he was very special, well-loved and appreciated by all his girls. Daddy will be greatly missed!
Margaret Truman wrote: "It’s only when you grow up and step back from him—or leave him for your own home—it’s only then that you can measure his greatness and fully appreciate it."

Jessie is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Marie James; his parents, Claude and Ola Belle James; his sisters, Donease Bryant, Winnell Boyd, and Shirley Hale, grandson, Mark Tyler; and great-granddaughter, Jasmine Paul.

He is survived by his five daughters, Theresa Durham (Barney), Nita James (Dickie), Judy Guthrie (Buddy) Ellie Warf (Johnny), and Brenda Rimes (Olan); four sisters, Barbara Brantley, Eloise Sheridan, Marcel Tennant, and Alta Mae (Mazie) Johnson; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2020 at Decoy Baptist Church in Green Cove Springs with Pastors A. J. Hatfield and Rudy Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Decoy Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Messages of encouragement or sympathy may be expressed in his online guestbook at www.themastersfuneralhomes.com.
