Michael Gilray Simpson, 76, of Hiawassee, Georgia and formerly of Palatka passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.
Michael was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. His family moved from Indiana to Interlachen in 1947. They later moved to Palatka where he graduated from Palatka Senior High School in 1963. He served honorably in the Florida National Guard. He worked at Guarantee Title in Palatka before going into the real estate business. He and his father, Howard Simpson, owned and operated Simpson Realty in Palatka, which he continued after his father’s death. After he closed the real estate office he still dabbled in real estate, buying and selling properties. His biggest goal in life, though, was sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others. He had given his testimony in churches from Plant City to Robbinsville, NC. He was a soul winner and had witnessed to his nurses in the hospital. He was a generous man. He and his wife donated the property for the Interlachen Library. He had become a summer visitor to Hiawassee, GA and moved there 19 years ago. Michael was a member of the Palatka Gideon Camp, the Macedonia Baptist Church in Hiawassee, GA and the Christ Independent Methodist Church in Palatka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Virginia Simpson; and a sister, Judith Simpson White.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Ola Jean “O.J.” Simpson of Hiawassee, GA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca and Wesley Arnold of Palm Coast, and Dana and Matthew Edmonds of Branford; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
The family will begin receiving friends 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27th at Christ Independent Methodist Church in Palatka. Services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Michael Hudson and Pastor Amos Price officiating. In honor and celebration of Michael’s life, a video tribute will be shown. For those who cannot attend in person, the service will be livestreamed at www.vimeo.com/mastersfuneralhome. Everyone is requested to wear a facemask and practice social distancing. Burial will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens.
