Elsa (Pat) Tanner Walker

Elsa (Pat) Tanner Walker passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center surrounded by her loving family.
Pat was born in Macon, Georgia, on July 25, 1928, to William W. Tanner and Patience Ethel Tanner. They moved to Palatka, Florida, when she was five years old.

Pat attended Campbell Elementary School and graduated from Mellon High School in 1946. Three days after her 18th birthday, she married Eugene “Punk” Walker, who had recently returned from service in World War II. The couple moved to Gainesville, Florida, where Pat worked to support her husband as he attended pharmacy school at the University of Florida. They were married for 69 years.

While her children were growing up, Pat was active in the St. James United Methodist Church in Palatka as a Sunday School teacher, Superintendent, and leader. Although her family always came first, Pat had successful careers in banking, real estate, and working alongside her husband at his pharmacy. She was involved in community affairs with her husband who served as Mayor of Palatka for 20 years. In her younger years, Pat enjoyed sports and played basketball, golf, and loved waterskiing.

Throughout her life, Pat was deeply involved with her family, touching, and blessing all their lives. Pat leaves behind a wonderful legacy of family devotion and commitment for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Pat is survived by her two children Jan Walker Hood (Charley) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Walt Walker (Elizabeth) of Wake Forest, North Carolina; six grandchildren Jenny Hood Miles (Jim), Amy Hood McEvoy (Matt), Kristen Walker Hill (Jonathan), Ashley Walker Norville (Bryan), Cassie Walker Payne (Hunter), and Austin Lee Walker (Jessica); 17 great-grandchildren; her devoted friends and caretakers, Debbie Smith, and Shannon Phiel; and her life-long friend, Doris Ann Westbury.

Funeral services will be 4:00 pm, Saturday, November 13, 2021, at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Maurice Sterling officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The service will be live streamed and may be viewed at www.vimeo.com/mastersfuneralhome. Burial will follow at Oak Hill East Cemetery.

Flowers are appreciated, but memorials can be made to Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center 6400 St. Johns Ave. Palatka, FL 32177.
