HARRIETTE MAE VICKERS

Harriette Mae Vickers, 94, of Dunns Creek, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021 at Windsor Health Care in Palatka following a brief illness.

Harriette was born in Joliet, Illinois and was one of nineteen children. She moved to Palatka 75 years ago from Joliet and had lived in Dunns Creek for the last 50 years. She had been a member of Peniel Baptist Church. At age nineteen, she met her husband at Angel’s Diner where he worked as a “soda jerk.” She was an Air Force wife and had lived in many places. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and cooking for her family and others, always cooking big Thanksgiving meals. She was an immaculate housekeeper and was known as the “world’s greatest grandmother.” She loved little kids and enjoyed playing bingo and bowling, having won many awards.

She was preceded in death by her husband, CMSGT Dalton Vickers, Sr., U.S. Air Force (retired); a son, Willie Vickers; and a daughter, Cheryl Ann Wilkins.

Surviving are two sons, Dalton Vickers, Jr. (Pam) and TSGT Wallie Vickers, U.S. Air Force (retired); a brother-in-law, Roy Vickers; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren scattered all over the country.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 4th at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Benny Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
